What to wear to golf, a beginner's guide for Women.

Some golf clubs have strict dress codes. Here is a check list on what to wear to golf and how to choose the right golf gear. As a beginner golfer, your swing may not be that perfect but you can certainly look the part on course.

TOPS

Many golf clubs only allow sleeveless, short sleeved or long sleeved tops with collars, which includes turtle necks. Many of the professional golfers wear polo tops, or zip up turtle neck tops. Halters, t-shirts and tank tops are not allowed at private clubs.

It's important to have a top which stretches with you as you move because you will certainly be moving a lot, swinging your clubs and pushing your buggy around the course. A cotton fabric or a polyester moisture wicking fabric will ensure you keep your cool.

At Forrest Golf, we prefer stretch cotton, as it's cool, stretchy and comfortable. Our Sally polo and Karenne polo are easy care and washable.

BOTTOMS

We recommend that you select stretch fabrics which will allow flexibility and enhance performance. Consider bottoms with pocket options as you may need somewhere to store your tee, ball marker, score card and pencil.

Wearing a smart belt can really set off your entire outfit so choose bottoms with belt loops.

Long pants, cropped or capri pants and shorts are all suitable for golf. Standard rules do not allow denim, sweat pants or athletic leggings.

A golf skort, a skirt with a concealed stretch short underneath, is preferable to a normal skirt for peace of mind when bending over the ball or teeing up. Forrest Golf skorts are flattering at just above the knee but shorter skirts are available in the market.

A neat fit around the body ensures that your clothes don't get in the way of your movement.

LAYERS

A game of golf can easily span over weather changes. In Australia many of our great courses are situated on the sand belt or near the coast. The temperature and wind conditions can be a little colder or windier than expected. It's wise to bring layers to adjust to the conditions.

A golf vest, a jacket or a sweater with stretch are a great idea. A waterproof rain jacket is a must. Keep a waterproof jacket in your golf bag just in case.

HAT

A visor, baseball or bucket hat is essential to avoid sun damage. Hats also tame any hair which could get in the way of keeping your eye on the ball. This summer Forrest Golf is launching on trend, matching stretch bucket hats. Sign up to our newsletter and we will tell you the minute they arrive.

SOCKS

Comfortable socks with padding and wick away properties will help you play all day. A small number of private clubs have specific rules around sock height, but in general ankle socks can be worn. Forrest Golf socks are seamless with padding in all the right places to help you finish the round in comfort.

GOLF GLOVE

A golf glove will help you to avoid blisters and calluses as well as a little bit of extra grip. A right handed golfer wears the glove on their left hand whilst a left handed golfer wears the glove on their right hand. It's important to buy the right size. Make sure you try the glove on before you buy.

SHOES

Light weight golf shoes with soft spikes or spikeless provide a firm footing and stability when you are hitting the ball. Metal spikes are no longer allowed as they damage the greens.

PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER

Golf has a history of tradition and looking smart on the course is one of them. Co-ordinating your outfit from head to toe is one way to make a statement. Our range is designed to co-ordinate. An easy way to start is to select a navy or black bottom and co-ordinate a bright colour top. Alternatively choose a statement print bottom and co-ordinate with a plain top. Navy, black or white golf shoes, matching golf belt and hat will complete the outfit.

At least you can fake it until you make it.
